SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It's an exciting day for people living at the Valley Vista Apartment Complex in Syracuse. Leaders came together today to announce major upgrades and renovations to the building.

The property's owners received more than $60,000 in state money to make necessary repairs and upgrades. The complex houses people on fixed incomes, including the elderly and disabled. So leaders say outside funding is crucial to being able to fix things up.

"Subsidized housing is tough because you never have enough money from rent and public subsidies to do everything you need to do, so occasionally an infusion of money of this kind is important because this building is 40 years old," said John Frantz with the Sutton Companies.

Some of the repairs include replacing the elevators in the building, and fixing the balconies. The owners also plan to put some money into making Valley Vista more energy efficient.
