Four years after a brutal murder shocked Athens Township, Pennsylvania, the Keeffe family finally has some closure. And they're speaking out. Our Lara Greenberg tells us what they're saying and how police finally made an arrest in the case.

ATHENS TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- The murders of David and Carol Keeffe have been a mystery since 2006. But the case was closed earlier this week when police arrested and charged 73-year-old John DeSisti with two counts of murder and one of burglary.

In a statement released Friday, the victims' daughter writes, "Now that an arrest has been made in my parents' murders, their case has to make its way through this justice system and that is going to take time. The only thing we can do at this point is to step back and let those that work in the justice system do their jobs."

Melissa Keeffe, who works at her deceased father's law firm, also asks for space at this time. State Police say the accused killer, DeSisti, is Carol Keeffe's first cousin. An avid hunter, DeSisti allegedly killed the couple ambush style, shooting them with both a shotgun and 22-caliber handgun.

"There was physical evidence at the scene as far as shot gun shells and some bloody footprints," said Pennsylvania State Trooper Martin Connors.

And investigators say all the evidence pointed to DeSisti, who had allegedly been fighting with Carol Keeffe for some time over land they inherited from Carol's father.

"Over the years, DeSisti basically started to encroach on the surrounding area being Carol's property," said Connors.

The investigative grand jury finally met in March of 2009 to hear evidence and it wasn't until this September that they made their recommendation. DeSisti was charged and arraigned Wednesday and is being held in Bradford County Prison without bail.

"Carol's dad died shortly after she was murdered, so he didn't see this day come, unfortunately. But hopefully, the rest of the Keeffe family, this'll start the closure process," said Connors.

And end the four years of uncertainty.

DeSisti is scheduled to appear in Bradford County court next week for a preliminary hearing.
