NY libraries to get sex predator awareness video

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A new video coming to libraries statewide shows the faces of four sex predators, men who became parental nightmares after winning trust and access to other people's children.

The state Division of Criminal Justice Services produced the video under a legislative directive and is releasing it Wednesday in the effort to prevent others from making similar mistakes. The four pedophiles, all state parolees, discuss what they did. Division spokesman John Caher, who conducted the interviews, says common threads were absence of conscience and rationalizations.

The four individually were an uncle, teacher and coach, child therapist and stepfather. While parents fear strangers, officials say acquaintances are the usual culprits.
