Syracuse students return means more business

It's back to class for students at Syracuse University today as the spring semester officially begins. And as you may assume businesses on and around university hill are looking forward to increased revenue. Our Brad Vivacqua is on Marshall Street this morning and has more on this.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Here on the hill a few thousands students have been arriving here back to campus over the past few days. If you haven't been here on Marshall Street both students and sports fans can expect to see a few changes from last semester.

A new Chipotle grill will open later this semester and a new sports bar and grill, DJ's, opened here last week.

Meanwhile other restaurants and stores are gleaming with the return of the student body.

With the recent success of the football and basketball teams new sports gear has become very popular. New Pinstripe Bowl championship shirts along with basketball shirts and jerseys have been a hot sell.

"Tremendous impact, when the sports teams do well we do well as a store, because we sell the Syracuse product. Syracuse sweatshirts, t-shirts, novelty items, and when the teams do well we seem to do a little better as well." Bill Nester, Manny's owner.

In addition to the students a huge crowd is expected at this Saturday's men's basketball game in the Carrier Dome versus Villanova. More than 30,000 tickets have already sold for the game.
