SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- It's another step toward building up the South Side of Syracuse. Wednesday, the South Side Community Coalition and Syracuse University's South Side Initiative celebrated the opening of a communication center.
The building on South Salina Street will have 12 computers and be connected to Wi-Fi. Members of the South Side Community Coalition say the center will bring much-needed internet access to those living in the area.
"If you go into Beachem Branch Library at any time of the day, they have about eight computers and at any time of the day, there's a waiting list for four or five people at a time. So the demand for use of free and public access for computers is great," said Joseph Bryant, South Side Community Coalition Board President.
The center will also house business offices for the South Side Community Coalition, the South Side Initiative and the Black History Preservation Project, a community museum about Syracuse's African American history.
