SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse Habitat for Humanity has started a new effort to help veterans and their families get into brand new homes.
Volunteers held a wall raising ceremony Wednesday at one of two locations where they're building homes on Fitch Street in Syracuse. The "Veteran's Build" is the first of its kind in New York State.
Two low income families will purchase the homes at reduced cost thanks to donations and volunteers. They'll also get a 30 year interest free mortgage.
Organizers say their goal is to get construction finished on both projects by Veterans Day of this year.
