SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- They're fierce rivals on the court and now Syracuse and UConn are engaged in a much more important competition off the court. Instead of scoring points the two schools are trying to score pints during a month long blood donation competition.

While the friendly competition is fun students we spoke with say saving a life is a much bigger incentive.

"I really think people on both campuses just really want to get out and give and I think that is probably one of the best incentives," said donor James Lyons.

Blood collected by SU students will be donated to the Golisano Children's Hospital.

UConn won the competition last year, collecting more than 500 pints of blood.
