SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The deadline is fast approaching for action on a new Syracuse budget. Common councilors have been studying the spending plan in recent weeks.
It's a budget that holds down spending in the coming year, avoiding any tax increases.
The council's majority leader says lawmakers are studying whether they might be able to find some funding to improve the city's contribution to the city school district.
"One of the nice things about this budget is the revenue stream is not inflated. They're real numbers. They're anticipated revenues. So even things that we know may be coming down the road a little bit are not in this budget," said Syracuse Common Councilor Kathleen Joy.
That could mean room to add in anticipated revenue, producing more money for education. The council is due to act on the budget plan by May 9th.
