SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Arbor Day was a busy day for students at Syracuse's Bellevue Elementary School. They marked the day by planting 12 new trees on school grounds. It gave students from various class levels a chance to work together and, school officials hope, it also taught a lesson about the environment.
"To celebrate Arbor Day. The importance of the caring for the trees. The importance of the beauty of the trees. We're very green oriented at Bellevue," said Bellevue Elementary Principal Joanne Harlow.
The students' efforts were applauded by city, county and state officials. The 12 trees were donated to the school by Cornell University's Cooperative Extension program.
