CLAY, N.Y. -- An early morning crash claims the life of a Town of Clay woman. It happened at about one o'clock this morning on Grampian Road, at the intersection with Braemar Drive.
Sheriff's deputies say Mark Richter, 22, was drunk when he crashed his car into a tree. Four other people were in the car, including his two-year-old son and the boy's mother, Debra Brown, 23.
Brown was taken to Upstate University Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Richter's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The boy and the other two people in the car were treated for minor injuries.
Richter has been charged with felony DWI under Leandra's Law and speeding. He'll be arraigned in the Town of Clay court in two weeks.
