BREWERTON, N.Y. -- The Brewerton Speedway in Oswego County is testing out a new one-of-a-kind track. In an attempt to lessen the amount of dirt kicked up on spectators, speedway officials have come up with a synthetic dirt made of wax. It's similar to the dirt used on horse tracks and baseball fields.

Brewerton Speedway is the first track in the nation to test out the new material, but drivers say while it's a good idea, there's still some experimenting to be done.

"Certainly to try it, it never hurts. I think in its current stage, it's not something that we can definitely roll out and race with on a weekly basis, but in the future, it might be something you see at racetracks across the country," said driver Matt Fink.

Right now, only 15 percent of race fans are women and officials hope the cleaner track will increase that number.
