WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Police have arrested and charged a Watertown man with bank robbery. Watertown police say William H. Pitoniak was formally charged Thursday for the robbery of the Key Bank on Washington Street.
Pitoniak is accused of entering the bank just after 4 p.m. and demanding money from two tellers. He then took off with an undisclosed amount of cash in an SUV.
Patrols spotted the vehicle a short time later. After a brief chase the suspect pulled into a parking lot and tried to run away on foot. He was then caught on a nearby street.
All the money was recovered and returned.
Pitoniak will be arraigned today in Watertown City Court on charges of robbery in the 3rd degree as well as 15 other vehicle and traffic violations.
