CANASTOTA, N.Y. -- Madison County's Fourth Annual Buy Local Week kicked off in Canastota Sunday.

The event began with a fresh food gala at the Monanfran Farm, highlighting the diversity of county agriculture.

The week will also feature: Taste of the County, a local restaurant showcase and Open Farm Day, a look inside county farms with samples, farm tours, and interaction with animals.

Organizers hope the event makes people more aware of what is actually available to them directly from their local farms.

"You don't know until you go to such events, that there are people that are doing different things in the county. Whether it be alpacas to bee hives to whatever, there’s a lot of local talent, and there are a lot of things people are doing on a small scale,” said Maurice Kelsey, Monanfran Farm.

The week-long event will wrap up Saturday, July 23rd.
