SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A rally was held outside the Onondaga County Justice Center Saturday, speaking out against deaths that took place in the county jail last year.

The day marked the one year anniversary of the death of Raul Pinet Jr. Pinet struggled with police while in custody and died shortly after he arrived at the Justice Center.

Less than a year earlier, Chuniece Patterson died of an ectopic pregnancy while in the jail.

Organizers say they are fighting for all victims of law enforcement brutality, misconduct and neglect. They hope to educate the public on how to better deal with authorities.

"In the long term, we're here to continue to build a movement to hold the police and to hold the sheriffs accountable and to equip people with the tools needed to police the police,” said Derek Ford, Answer Coalition coordinator.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the rally Saturday.
