TUG HILL, N.Y. -- The Tug Hill Region is known locally for some of the best ATV trails around, but now the secret is out.

Lewis County Recreational Trails Coordinator Bob Diehl said, "Destination Polaris was looking for a place to ride in New York State and we are the only public ATV Trail system in the state, so they eventually found their way to us."

The Outdoor Channel's program shot the ATV trail system last October. Those who keep the trails up say it's great to be recognized as a premier riding area.

Tug Hill Adirondack ATV Association President Joseph Onyon said, "(It's) a big reward. For all of the time we spent out there in the woods, day in day out, spending a lot of money to improve the trail system so this is a reward for all of our hard work."

Although it's a small area, trail coordinators say they weren't surprised Tug Hill was chosen for the show.

Diehl said, "What we're building is big and Lewis County is at the forefront, but eventually we're going to have a five or six county regional ATV trail system."

Destination Polaris also highlighted the local maple museum giving viewers a taste of what Lewis County has to offer. And hopes are high that this show can help create more local tourism and boost the local economy.

Onyon said, "It's great to see families come up here to the North County and enjoy the trail system."

"We hope the ripple effect will be more permits sold," said Diehl. "This is the third year of our permit system. It's a funding source to build and maintain trails, we're hoping that we see rider-ship go up."

If you didn't catch the show, it will re-air at 9:30 p.m. Monday, 2 a.m. Tuesday and again on November 14th. You can find it on Time Warner Cable channel 243.
