POTSDAM, N.Y. -- "This shelter looks as nice as where I live," Potsdam resident Hyman Baker said.
The Potsdam Humane Society is excited to show off its new bigger and better facility that opened Tuesday. The one million dollar renovation, which was funded through donations and grants, was added on to the original building. The space is now doubled, with the old facility being an updated medical wing and the addition is an adoption center.
"There's a lot more maneuverability. It's not congested. We have an intake area, an out take area. The traffic flow is much improved," said Potsdam Humane Society Director Anne Smith.
While the humane society says the space is great for workers and potential adopters, it's main benefit is a healthier situation for the animals.
"We have much better air circulation, so the germs aren't bouncing off the walls. We have an isolation ward, which we never had before, so anytime we have an animal that looks off, we can remove it from the general population," Smith said.
"Every living thing, whether it be a cat or a dog or a guinea pig, deserves a home. Deserves love. Deserves care," Baker said.
And those at the Humane Society are hopeful the new facilities will bring lasting care to our furry friends in the North Country.
