SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Hundreds of people were in Syracuse's Inner Harbor Sunday morning to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer.

The third annual Hope for Heather Teal Ribbon Run and Walk raises money for education and outreach about the disease, which affects more than 20,000 women each year. Organizers said it's important for women to learn more about ovarian cancer because it can often be hard to detect.

Hope for Heather President Frieda Weeks said, “They need to be aware of the symptoms that their body tells them and talk to their doctors if they believe they have any of the symptoms which are very vague and very difficult to diagnose."

In addition to the main 5k run and walk, the event also featured a 100 yard Stiletto Dash.
