CAMDEN, N.Y. -- The Homer football team was hoping to make a deep playoff run for both its and the Phoenix community following the death of Firebirds junior lineman Ridge Barden last Friday, but it was not to be as Camden beat the Trojans 7-0 in the opening round of the Section III playoffs on Saturday.
The lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 77-yard pass from Colby Stratton to Joe Muller. Camden will play Chittenango in the semifinals next weekend.
Austin Recor rushed for 135 yards on 34 carries for Homer, which wore Phoenix-orange socks and had the Firebirds on hand cheering them on.
