UTICA, N.Y. -- Burglaries are on the rise and law enforcement is on the move in Oneida County. District Attorney Scott McNamara announced the creation of a county-wide Burglary Task Force.

McNamara says the new task force involves unprecedented cooperation from every county law enforcement agency, including State, Utica and Rome Police. Officers will meet once a week to share information and track burglaries. They're also working on developing a law similar to one in Syracuse that makes pawn shop owners document what items they take in and who they buy from to better track what could be stolen heirlooms or irreplaceable items.

"No money in the world's going to replace what was taken because it's of sentimental value. If the pawn shops have to keep track of it, it also gives us an opportunity if they have to notify the police of what they have taken, we have an opportunity to recover it for the victims," said McNamara.

The task force is meant to exist temporarily and can regroup if burglaries rise in the future.
