SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Retired Professional Firefighter's Cancer Fund donates $15,000 to Upstate Cancer Center.

The non-profit organization's sole purpose is to raise money for cancer research and the group feels Upstate is the perfect recipient for their donation.

Firefighters, unions and every day people across both the United States and Canada helped to raise the money. The organization focuses on those cancers where there is a higher than normal incidence among firefighters, but they say the donation will benefit anyone affected by the disease.

"Everyone will benefit from the work that we do because cancer research effects anyone that is involved with cancer or who will contract cancer," said William Newland, President of the Retired Professional Firefighters Cancer Fund.

Officials at Upstate say this is the first time the Retired Professional Firefighter's Cancer Fund has donated to them and they look forward to a future partnership.
