SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Longtime Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine is sitting out his first game following sex abuse allegations.

SU placed Fine on administrative leave Thursday night after ESPN reported a man came forward, claiming to have been molested by Fine while serving as a ball boy in the '80s.

Fine said, "Sadly, we live in an allegation-based society and an internet age where in a matter of minutes, one's lifelong reputation can be severely damaged. I am confident that, as in the past, a review of these allegations will be discredited and restore my reputation.''

This isn't the first time these allegations have surfaced. The university conducted a similar investigation back in 2005, but could not find anyone who corroborated the accuser's story.

SU head basketball coach Jim Boeheim, in a radio interview, strongly defended his long-time assistant.

“All the people involved were questioned and talked to. There was nothing there. It's as simple as that,” Boeheim said in an interview with TK 99 Radio.

Syracuse University has reopened its investigation into the allegations and Syracuse Police are conducting their own review.
