ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Liverpool woman accused of suffocating her newborn baby and placing her in a dumpster last January was arraigned in court Tuesday morning.

Nicole DeJaynes, 29, pleaded not guilty to a charge of second degree murder. DeJaynes was arrested last winter after police say her baby was found in a dumpster outside the Pearl Street Apartments in the Village of Liverpool.

Police say DeJaynes gave birth at the apartments where she had been staying with friends, and they believe she acted alone in killing the newborn.

DeJaynes also has a five-year-old child that is living with family. She is being held without bail.
