ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- It's not every day you get the chance to see robots stacking crates. But that day was Friday at Clarkson University.

More than 400 high school students and coaches from throughout the region competed in the fifth annual FIRST Tech Challenge Championship. Teams of students had to design, build and program a robot that had the ability to stack crates and put racquet balls inside.

"I think it means a lot when they do well, but I think they have a lot of fun, just participating, camaraderie and they also learn a heck of a lot," said James Carroll, Associate Professor of Computer Engineering.

Of course, only one robot could win, but the awards didn't end there. Students were also judged on their attitudes and team spirit.

Middle schoolers will be competing in their own competition on Saturday.
