SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- SU head coach Jim Boeheim says he reacted without thinking when he made his initial comments about two men who came forward with allegations of sexual abuse by former assistant coach Bernie Fine.

Boeheim apologized during his post game news conference Friday night.

"I believe I misspoke very badly in my response of the allegations that have been made. I shouldn't have questioned what the accusers expressed or their motives. I am really sorry I did that and I regret any harm that I caused. It was insensitive to the individuals involved and especially to the overall issue of child abuse," said Boeheim.

Boeheim has come under harsh criticism for saying the accusers were lying about the abuse.

Boeheim went onto say it is important that the investigation against his former long-time assistant move forward and that authorities learn the truth of what really happened.

"What I said last week was out of loyalty. I reacted without thinking. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I'm trying to learn from my mistake and this has been a hard time,” Boeheim said.
