SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A federal judge has denied requests from the news media to make public affidavits and other materials used to back the government’s request for search warrants in the Bernie Fine case.

Fine is under investigation for alleged abuse of young boys over a period of several decades.

While Judge Andrew Baxter had agreed to make public the records of what was seized in raids at Fine's home and office, he said releasing the information contained in the actual application for the warrants would reveal too much of the prosecution's case before they've had an opportunity to seek an indictment.

Baxter says much of the information has already found its way into the public domain through statements made by four alleged victims, but he says that does not justify a full release which could tip the defense to what scope of the government probe is.
