MOHAWK VALLEY, N.Y. -- A New Jersey company is fined $500,000 for illegally dumping more than 8,000 tons of construction debris on wetlands in Herkimer County.
Eagle Recycling was ordered Monday to pay more than $70,000 in restitution and clean-up costs and a $500,000 fine.
The company pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiring to violate the Clean Water Act's ban on filling wetlands and committing wire fraud in order to do it.
The group was accused of dumping the debris on Frankfort farmland near the Mohawk River between June and October of 2006.
