SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A local lawmaker is touting the success of the new Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert system after two recent cases of people being successfully located in Upstate New York.

A Baldwinsville man was found safe in Ontario County Thursday morning after he was reported missing Wednesday afternoon. And earlier this week, a woman in Tonawanda was found after the alert system was activated.

"If it hadn't been for the alert, at least 24 hours would have gone by before anything was known to policing authorities about the missing person. Because they obviously fell within the alert spectrum, information was available to policing authorities to help bring these people home. That's what the legislation was all about and I'm just happy that it worked,” Assemblyman William Magnarelli said.

The legislation establishing the system was signed into law about two months ago.
