SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The case of Bernie Fine has raised awareness of child sexual abuse in the Syracuse area. But it's also raised questions about what can be done to safeguard children in interactions with those in positions of authority, like sports coaches.
The McMahon-Ryan Child Advocacy Center is planning a town hall meeting it says is a call to action on prevention of child abuse in athletics.
“For parents to be aware. School teachers to be aware. All of our community resources to be aware what to look for. Working with kids not only who could be victims of sexual abuse, but also potential for adult perpetrators to be grooming victims. What to look for. What we understands motivates sexually offending behavior,” said Allison Young, Family Transitions Program.
McMahon-Ryan's Town Hall meeting is planned Thursday night at OCC's Storer Auditorium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. YNN will broadcast a portion of the forum from 7 to 8 p.m. that night.
