ESSEX COUNTY, N.Y. -- A skier has died on Whiteface Mountain in Essex County.

State Police say Daniel McGovern, 25, from Carle Place, New York, was skiing with relatives Friday morning on the Excelsior Trail when he lost control and collided with several trees about 30 feet off the trail. McGovern was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Whiteface Ski Patrol and EMTs responded, but McGovern died before they could get him off the mountain.
