SYRACUSE, N.Y. – There has been no decision yet on the Alliance Bank lease agreement between Onondaga County and the Syracuse Chiefs, but the full legislature is expected to vote at their next meeting in February.

The 11 year lease would keep the Chiefs in town and shift more responsibilities from the county to the team. The team will also be able to make investments and improvements to the stadium while keeping more of the money from baseball and other events.

There's also an option for the team to buy the facility sometime within the next two years.

"You know, it's 15 years old and 15 years from now, it will be 30 years old. And, at some point, if there's nobody else out there that wants to buy it, obviously the ball club would like to step up. And I think the savings on behalf of the local taxpayers, us, would be pretty good. And we'd be assuming a lot more cost. So it's subjective, I guess, and you have to come up with a number," said Syracuse Chiefs General Manager John Simone.

The Chiefs say they will continue to pursue concerts and other events for the stadium. And the Chiefs will make the stadium available for community events on at least 30 dates rent-free.
