SKANEATELES, N.Y. -- They call it freezing for a reason. The Skaneateles Polar Club held its third annual plunge Saturday at Skaneateles Lake as a way to raise money for local charities.

Sixty people came out this year to brave the cold water and support the Skaneateles Fire Department, SAVES Volunteer Ambulance Service, and the Skaneateles Education Fund.

The founding fathers said that Skaneateles Lake is a great location for this type of event.

Organizer Todd Marshall said, “Four years ago, we all got together and I had seen this done some place else and I thought this is a perfect location, what better way to have fun in the middle of CNY and raise money for three big causes."

The event raised $5,500 last year for charity and hopes to exceed that amount this year.
