SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Hundreds of Central New York National Guard members are joining others across the state and country overseas.
A deployment ceremony was held Sunday morning for more than 375 members of the 27th Brigade Combat Team at the Hancock Air National Guard Base in Syracuse.
The soldiers will train in Mississippi before heading to Kuwait this spring. They'll be supporting security operations and performing other duties.
Col. Geoffrey Slack, 27th Infantry BCT Commander said, “The United States will always have an enduring presence in what is called the Centcom AOR. It always has, it always will, and this brigade is going over to support that mission as directed by the general offices over there."
Major Thomas Hayduk, 27th Infantry BCT said, “I've been with this unit for over ten years and they're part of my family. So it's really being deployed with your family and looking out for one another."
The deployment is expected to last up to a year.
