SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse city leaders took another small step forward in the effort to redevelop the Inner Harbor Monday.
The Economic Development Committee passed a memorandum of understanding with COR Development, essentially endorsing the sale of the 28 acres of land.
COR has proposed a $350 million project that includes the development of a hotel and marina, a satellite campus for Onondaga Community College, retail and senior housing, townhomes and more.
The vote passed eight to one, with Majority Leader Lance Denno the only nay vote.
Other councilors say they're excited to get the ball rolling.
"I think that for the most part, people are pretty receptive to the idea. The concern of course is local jobs. It's absolutely one of my biggest concerns. And so, I am convinced that there will be a lot of local opportunity for not only union but even for non-union," Syracuse City Councilor Khalid Bey said.
City officials still need to negotiate a contract with COR before the land is transferred. That will need to be approved by the mayor and entire common council.
