MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Board of Supervisors in Madison County held a public hearing Monday to discuss the proposed Agriculture and Renewable Energy Business Park.

Madison County is looking to develop 150 acres of county-owned land and attract businesses to the area. The location includes the landfill in the Town of Lincoln. The county hopes to create the park and use renewable energy and other green initiatives to turn that landfill area into profit.

The county continues to evaluate some of the environmental impacts the business park may have on the area, such as traffic, emissions and water use. But officials say it’s a great opportunity.

"We're looking at this from the economic development perspective. We're looking at the potential for new land to be taken off of county tax rolls and onto the private tax rolls. The opportunity to bring new jobs, bring new industry, help diversify the local industry," said Madison County IDA Executive Director Kipp Hicks.

Some businesses are already in talks with the county about being part of the park, including a lumber company that hopes to use green thermal energy at its facility.
