SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More than 30,000 people are expected at tonight's game, and if you're one of those people, you're encouraged to bring a can of food or a monetary donation. Signs are posted all around the SU campus, and in the last two weeks, students have been dropping off their donations to help the Food Bank of Central New York.
Collections are also being conducted on the Georgetown campus as part of the “Better Together Can It” initiative.
At SU, the Interfaith Student Council has been leading the collection at the Schine Student Center. Student volunteers we spoke to say it's fulfilling to know they're helping so many people.
"Hunger is such a big issue in our community so it's so important that we can make a difference in Syracuse and it's also fun to team up with Georgetown since we're usually rivals but this time we can do something good together," said SU senior Rachel Tjornehoj.
"We should be able to reach massive amounts of people. I think the attendance for the game is already confirmed 30,000 people and if half of those people even brought two cans that's 30,000 cans right there. I'm really hoping for more, and I'm hoping for more money to be raised. So, I'm excited," said SU junior Ismail Pathan.
You can continue to drop off cans on campus until 4 p.m. at the Schine Student Center. If you're headed to the game tonight, you can look for the volunteers collecting donations at the gates.
Students have been camping out since Friday morning to get in the front row of the student section. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
