ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Mohawk Valley Chamber Board has passed a resolution that supports reducing the size of the Oneida County legislature.
The legislature currently has 29 positions and is among the largest board of legislators in New York State's 57 counties, outside of New York City.
The new resolution proposes that 10 of the positions be eliminated, bringing the total to 19. The proposal says that the reduction will be helpful with contracting government in an area with a diminishing population.
