NEW YORK STATE -- Shortly after winning the Super Bowl, a special license plate was released honoring the New York Giants. But two New York lawmakers say the first responders and victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks are the true heroes.
Republican Assemblyman James Tedisco and Republican Senator Kenneth LaValle are introducing a bill to create a license plate honoring the first responders and victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Tedisco-LaValle bill would direct revenue from a commemorative license plate to charities benefiting the families of those killed on 9/11.
"I think Manning is a great role model, good family man as far as I can see. But I would not classify him or any of his mates on the Giants team as heroes. I would classify the law enforcement officials, volunteers, firefighters, the paramedics and the victims. I would call them heroes," Tedisco said.
Until this license plate featuring the Giants' win, the state actually had stopped creating commemorative plates because of a lawsuit by an advocacy group.
