President Obama announces more funding for restoring the struggling Great Lakes.

In a continuing fight against the invasion of Asian carp, the president announced Monday that an additional $300 million will go toward the Great Lakes.

At the beginning of his presidency, President Obama originally promised that $500 million would go into the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative each year. But due to budget challenges, that amount dropped to about $300 million a year.

A recent study concluded that preventing a single invasive species from entering the Great Lakes could save as much as $5 billion over 30 years.
