ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Five local companies and organizations were recognized for their efforts to recycle. The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency presented its Blue Ribbon Recycler of the Year award for 2011. The ceremony was held at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo Thursday morning.
Recipients are honored for their efforts to recycle not only paper, bottles, cans, and cardboard, but other materials like electronics and fluorescent bulbs. Officials said the efforts of these businesses, combined with those of the community, make a big difference.
"Thanks to everybody doing their part at home, at school and the work place, our community every year recycles over 500,000 tons of material. So everybody doing their small part really does make a big difference in making our world and our community a little bit better every day," said Andrew Radin, Director of Recycling for OCRRA.
