JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Cape Vincent man faces nearly four decades in prison after pleading guilty to stabbing his girlfriend's mother to death last year.

Mikel Odle was arrested last May for the murder of 51-year old Mary Burkman and the attempted murder of her daughter, Amber Englebert, at their home in Cape Vincent. Odle was arrested after a high speed chase with his and Englebert's 11-month-old daughter in the car.

Odle was originally charged with 17 counts in the case, but Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to three: Second degree murder, attempted first degree murder and first degree reckless endangerment.

Odle's sentencing is scheduled for June, where he faces up to 37 years in prison.
