New bike park offers fun for everyone

A unique indoor bike park in Central New York is gaining popularity. The Cranx Indoor Bike and Sports Park in DeWitt opened last month and has been a hit with both BMX and mountain bike enthusiasts. As our Brad Vivacqua reports, the park appeals to anyone, regardless of age.

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Looking to bike through trails, mazes, and berms? Well look no further than an attraction you won't find in many other places. The new Cranx Indoor Bike and Sports Park in DeWitt is a 53,000 square foot wooden jungle.

"You can rent a bike, you can bring your own bike, however you want to do it," said Dale Cruce, Cranx Indoor Bike Park owner.

Obviously, the weather isn't always perfect in Central New York, which is one of the reasons to create such a facility here. You can get day pass for between $20 and $30.

"We have a cross country loop that basically goes along the whole inner perimeter of the building, we have a foam pit where people can practice jumping in the foam and learn how to do it safely. We have a pumping pit which is a bunch of rollers and berms that you can ride without having to pedal," said Cruce.

Never before has the area seen such a venue as this. A place where kids can come, have fun, and get plenty of exercise on their bikes.

Of course, it's not just the kids who are enjoying themselves.

"It's just a wonderful place for us to be able to come and ride, and enjoy time with our families and stuff like that you know. Syracuse has never had anything like this, or most other places have never seen anything like this," said Tim Pavia of East Syracuse.

"I've been here nine or ten times since it opened. And, it's just the most amazing place, it's just so much fun. I never get bored," said Tony Blair of Oriskany Falls.

So grab a bike, and a helmet of course, and get ready to ride.

The facility is located on Thompson Road in DeWitt just off of Carrier Circle. For more information, visit www.cranx.com.
