SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State recently adopted new energy codes, but going above and beyond those requirements could mean costs savings for towns and their residents.

Cornell Cooperative Extension brought representatives from the NYSERDA to Schuyler County to explain ways homeowners and municipalities can be more green. From increasing insulation, to using more energy-efficient lighting and building materials.

But there are always two sides to consider when implementing new regulations.

"Buildings would be more energy efficient, so lower energy costs. More comfortable homes. And some of the negatives might be that these more advanced codes may be more challenging for builders to build too," said NYSERDA Representative Phil Sapone.

The representatives were brought in as part of an exploratory process. There is no time table for Schuyler County or any of its municipalities to adopt the new code regulations.
