Rochester Fire Chief John Caufield announced the arrest of Bobbie Kugler, 31, during a news conference Friday afternoon.

She is charged with arson and four counts of manslaughter, one for each of her children that died in the fire. Three others were injured when they jumped from the windows of the Grape Street home.

Bobbie Kugler sobbed quietly through the entire proceedings as her lawyer defended her in court Saturday morning. Her attorney said she does not have a criminal record and called the allegations against her a travesty. He said the fire was reckless in nature, but that's a stark contrast from accusing Kugler of setting it intentionally.

Kugler pleaded not guilty to both the arson and manslaughter charges. She was sent to jail in lieu of $300,000 cash bail or $1,000,000 bond.

YNN spoke with the mother of another young victim, Giovanni Delorm, outside the courthouse Saturday. She said she knew this day would come, but it was hard to hear the news this way.

"Because I want to know why, why would you do that. Why would you put your children in jeopardy and somebody else's children. And I'm gonna miss hearing them running up and down their stairs and playing outside and coming to my house and playing the video games with my son. I just don't know why she did it. I don't understand," said Colleen Bender.

Bender said she will be sure that Kugler stands up and takes responsibility for her actions.
