Just about a year after the roof collapsed at the First Baptist Church of Memphis, church members broke ground at a new site just minutes away. But as YNN's Erin Clarke tells us, although the future church location is close, it seems miles away.

CAMILLUS, N.Y. -- They've been attending service in a cramped building next to their church since the roof caved in more than a year ago. Now First Baptist Church of Memphis members are breaking ground at the perfect location for a new place of worship.

"God really just dropped this in out laps and just said this is where you should build. It's only three minutes away," said Building Committee Member, Shane Darling.

The new location may create a bit of confusion. The First Baptist Church of Memphis will be located on Route 5 in the Town of Camillus right before the Town of Elbridge sign, but the pastor says that won't create an identity crisis.

"Biblically the church is the people, not the building and the people are the same. So we are still the people of First Baptist Church of Memphis," said pastor, Arthur George.

So the name will stay the same and now the congregation is looking forward to ministering to more people.

"With this new location we will be able to have new members," said Marie Bowers.

"The location we're at now it's obviously off the beaten path. We've had several people who were like 'you go to what church, Memphis. Where's that?' And now we're going to be able to say, yes we do go to Memphis, but everybody is going to see us here on Route 5," said Darling.

It's bittersweet for members who have attended the original church for years, but they see the opportunity created by what was a difficult situation two winters ago.

The projected project cost for the new church is $1.3 million. Insurance will take care of most of that and missionary workers are helping out on the build. The First Baptist Church of Memphis should open on Route 5 in October of 2013.
