UNITED STATES – Today is the deadline for filing your taxes. April 17th is this year's deadline, as opposed to the traditional April 15th. That's because the 15th fell on a Sunday and Monday was Emancipation Day, which is a federal holiday.
Tax preparers said they'll be busy all day helping people make corrections to their forms, and filing last minute returns.
“Typically the ones that come in this time of year are the ones that owe money, they're not in a hurry and they really don't want to deal with it," said Steve Jacobson with EG Tax Service.
You have until 11:59 p.m. to file. If you're not going to make it, you need to file for an extension. However, the extension only gives you additional time to file the paperwork, not make the payments.
