TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Tompkins County Sheriff's office says that a Groton man stabbed over the weekend has died from his injuries. Deputies said Jeff West, 31, was stabbed by Dana Houghtling, 40, at a home in the town of Lansing Sunday.

West was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he passed away Monday night.

Witnesses told police that Houghtling had taken off in his car after the attack. He was later spotted near the intersection of Van Ostrand and Newman roads and was taken into custody.

Houghtling was arrested Monday for first-degree assault. Authorities are now considering this a homicide investigation and are working with the District Attorney's office to determine further charges.
