SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse hosts a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on the second phase of its expansion project.

The second phase of the project will cost about $140 million, and will generate 400 construction jobs and 150 new health care jobs. With the project, the hospital will have 14 more operating rooms, private patient rooms, family waiting areas. The expansion will also include solar panels, energy conserving systems and a greenway park, among other efforts to "go green."

"We think the importance to getting to private rooms and to a green environment is better quality, the ability to provide faster care, the quality of care for people around infection control is going to get better with an environment designed for today's issues," said Kathryn Ruscitto, CEO of St. Joseph's Hospital.

The second phase of the expansion is planned to be completed by 2014, but they're hoping for it to be finished much sooner.
