NEW YORK -- A late April snow storm has led to numerous school closings and power outages across the Southern Tier. The storm was expected to be mostly rain, but some areas, especially in higher elevations, have seen as much as five or six inches.

The National Weather Service reports five inches fell in Hammondsport overnight. The Dryden area is seeing about five inches as well and people in Horseheads woke up to find about four inches of snow on the ground.

There are also thousands of power outages across the region. According to NYSEG, more than 3,000 customers lost power in Chemung County. More than 1,100 lost power in Steuben County.

As for road conditions, they are slick in some spots. An accident in Onondaga County closed part of Interstate 81 for several hours this morning. The accident was minor, but the wintry mix made it difficult for crews to clean up the scene.
