STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Steuben County Sheriff's office is investigating two fights at the county jail, one of them involving the main suspect in the disappearance of a Florida woman.
David Perry, 47, of Elmira was being held on a grand larceny charge, which stems from an investigation into retirement benefits which he may have illegally received from the state. Perry is also the ex-boyfriend and suspect in the case of Kelly Rothwell, who has been missing from her Florida home for more than a year.
Deputies said Perry got into a fight and injured another inmate's head Saturday night at the Steuben County Jail. He has been charged with second degree assault, and was arraigned Sunday night in town court in Bath.
He was being held on $25,000 bail at the time of the fight. The judge upped that to $100,000 at his arraignment.
