HENDERSON, N.Y. -- The search continues on Lake Ontario for a missing boater near the shores of Henderson Harbor.

David Tuttle, 45, of Lowville has been missing since Saturday morning after the 19-foot vessel he was fishing on capsized. Henderson Fire Department members were able to rescue a second fisherman, Buck Stockman, who was with Tuttle at the time.

Because of the unusual weather conditions, the Coast Guard says it's not a good idea for boaters to venture out onto the lake if possible. They encourage everyone who is boating to file a float plan and to wear a life jacket at all times. These steps can help rescue crews to reach vessels in distress faster and helps to ensure the safety of everyone on the lake.

US Coast Guard Officer William Phillips said, "It's not a good idea to be going out at all. The best thing that we can tell you at a Coast Guard station is that your safety is our number one priority, and to keep you safe, it means you need to be prepared for the elements."

One Jefferson County Sheriff's Department boat continued to search Lake Ontario Monday for the missing boater, while crews from Henderson continued a ground. Sheriff John Burns says this continues to be a recovery mission at this time, and they will work as long as conditions allow.
